Nick Hill, Authorising Engineer (Water) and Director at Water Quality London Ltd.
What does your business do?
Water Quality London is an independent consulting business that provides advice for organisations in London, typically those which have large property portfolios. We provide advice on maintaining the water quality in the systems within the building. This can be around microbiological quality e.g. Legionella or chemical quality e.g. corrosion, or taste. We also provide expert witness or trouble shooting services as well as helping people to systematically manage the risks associated with water.
What was the trigger point for first enlisting KPMG Small Business Accounting’s help?
I saw an advert in the Sunday Times magazine, which really stuck out to me. It described the service clearly, provided a price and gave a good indication as to what you would get as part of that, which I found to be really transparent.
Why did you choose KPMG Small Business Accounting?
I really liked the idea that the service provided a full package that is backed up by software. Plus the fact that it was a fixed price meant I knew exactly what I’d be paying and the support included as part of that fee.
What benefits have you seen?
The real benefits have been around time saving. Applications like Receipt Bank and the payroll service have just made day to day business matters so straight forward. As a small business owner, the meter is always running so anything that saves time is always beneficial.
In what way has the access to a dedicated KPMG accountant helped you?
It’s useful to have one person to turn to, who can learn the quirks of your business and get to know how you work. I have always tended to prefer doing business face to face but I’ve really adjusted to simply dealing with my accountant over the phone and email. It works surprisingly well without compromising the level of service.
In what way(s) has KPMG Small Business Accounting added value to your business?
The real value add is that I don’t have to think about the accounting too much. It frees me up to get on with servicing my clients.
How has the reality of working with KPMG Small Business Accounting compared with your expectations?
Working with KPMG Small Business Accounting has completely met my expectations. The service does exactly what it says on the tin with no surprises. I guess the traditional perception that KPMG is only a “big business” accounting firm has been overturned in my mind.
What are your next steps with KPMG Small Business Accounting?
Its early days so hard to predict, but I’ll suspect I’ll continue to work with my accountant to refine the way I do some of my reporting. I also plan to use more of the credit control features within the software to my advantage.
